Hola Beloved Friend,
Happy Tuesday! As many of you may know, my writing career is taking off and shaping my professional world in ways I didn’t anticipate. Writing you every week feels like a gift 🎁 and the opportunity to pay forward for all life has given me. My sincere aspiration with this weekly newsletter is to serve you and, through my experience, provide you with inspirational nuggets to make you curious 🧐 to awaken your inner wisdom. Why? Because I care for you, I really do, and because you are part of this community, we are growing together.
I know the importance and value of community. Most importantly, I know that doing the healing and restorative emotional labor is a personal journey, and having a community to rely on makes a huge difference. When I owned and ran the yoga studio and wellness center, I had a beautiful connection with many of you. It was common to find me with other community members, spending hours talking about life and supporting each other. The sense of community was real and tangible; many of us healed our bodies, hearts, and spirits and found purpose and direction.
The piece I am sharing with you today was inspired by the period in my life when, as a woman business owner, I had to bravely prioritize my wellness when the shadow of past traumas and unprocessed hardships became almost impossible to bear. Right then, I have the choice to face my suffering or continue to repress my emotions. I am blessed 🙏🏽 to say that the tough choice to let go of my entrepreneurial dream was one of the best decisions I made in my life, and that ultimately gave me space to reconcile with my inner self and catapulted me into pursuing other forms of healing and professional adventures.
May this essay bring the message that your spiritual self needs to hear and inspire you to create a wise habit of caring for yourself as you care for others.
THE REGRETS OF THE BATHTUB
As professional women in a constantly evolving modern world, we often face the challenges of building our careers and making a name for ourselves in workplaces and professional fields still heavily influenced by dominant structures that exclude us. In addition to all this, we bear the weight of family responsibilities, leaving us with little opportunity to focus on ourselves and self-reflect about our needs and experiences.
It's only when the accumulation of unprocessed memories from our past experiences becomes too overwhelming 😮💨 to ignore that we begin to feel the impact on every aspect of our lives. These memories manifest as physical distress but weigh heavily on our mental and emotional well-being.
You go to doctors, take a bunch of medicine 💊 that fixes you for a short while, and then, something else pops up: another pain, another discomfort sensation, another mental and emotional breakdown, leaving you feeling alone and ❤️🩹broken, all these while you are running multi-million dollars💰projects and trying to keep the harmony at your home, but in reality, home, your real home, your inner home is crumbling.
You drink expensive wine 🍷 from exotic places that you don’t even know where they are on the map and buy expensive accessories and beauty treatments to decorate what people can see, yet when the house is quiet, everybody in your circle has their needs satisfied, the lights go off, and you can soak your insanity tired body on the bathtub, 💔 you broke down, naked, on pain and alone. 🥹
You put yourself back together, decorate your exterior self, and carry on - because that is what you do! 🦹🏻♀️ - Until you can’t do it any longer because the memories are too intense, the emotional/physical pain is uncontrollable, and the back and forth between the one you want to be and the one that you really are, and no one can’t see, the back and forth, is not manageable any longer.
More doctors, more pills, few things have taken off, few other things put on your body, 😷 less time to self, more distractions, less meaningful relationships, few divorces/separations along the way, more successful projects at work, less time for bedtime stories and the times you soak your body on the bathtub are now far from each other because there is no time ⏳for your own pity party.
And one day, you wake up sore, full of regrets, fewer hairs, fewer pounds, look your naked self in the mirror, trying to find the beautiful, youthful you behind the new wrinkle in your face, and suddenly, the called from the one you used to hear while soaking on the bathtub, made it to the mirror 🪞and with soft eyes, she looked at you and look at your tired body, smiled at you and in aw, you bring your hands to the mirror trying to touch her 🙇🏻♀️ and recharge yourself back to the old years ✨ when you were the powerhouse, everyone seems to know, and by closing your eyes your heart, the excited voice of the younger you, “do you think is time now?” ⁉️ And right when you were to agree to make time to visit the younger version of yourself, the doors opened by the young guy, dressed in scraps and medical equipment in his hand, said, good morning, Mrs. Smith, it is time for you next…
Weaving Wisdom For This Week
Amiga, our journey is indeed a delicate dance between the demands of the external world and the internal call for self-care and healing; please remember that when we choose to address our inner selves and the painful memories from our past and wisely make the choice to prioritize self-care by honoring our past experiences, we pave the way for a brighter, more fulfilled future.
As a community, we have the power to ensure that our journey is one of empowerment, healing, and, ultimately, self-discovery so that You/I/We can fully savor the warm waters of our well-deserved hot bathtub.
Don’t wait until the energy of your youth is just an illusion to visit your inner self!
With much love,
Lorena
